Daily Oracle Pulls: January 12-18

If I had to narrow down this week’s cards to one word, it would be “present.” Or more appropriately, to be present. To celebrate when you can, to face hard truths when you have to, and to accept that this is the new order of things even when you don’t want to. Life isn’t fair. There are plenty of things in life that are waiting to steal your joy, your faith, and your peace. And at times, it feels like the people who get the most of the hardships are the ones who deserve it the least. And yet, we are tasked to face whatever drops in our laps regardless of how fair it is.
The only way to manage without completely falling apart is to take things one day at a time. One day will feel like the tower is crashing down and the next day might feel like all you can do is throw your hands up and try to have a good time. The trick is to remember that you get to start over with each new day. That doesn’t mean things will be easier tomorrow, but it does mean you can let go of today when the day is done. To be present in what is, rather than loosing yourself in the despair or what was or what may come.
The good news is that the hardship for January appears to be over. The tower was the last challenging card of the month and things get progressively better from here. So do your best to find some hope in that. I know I’m going to try to do the same.

→ The Winter Tower
The tower is never an easy card to receive. It represents your structure crashing down around you. Something you thought to be stable and supportive turned out to be the very thing that breaks you down. When this card appears, there is nothing more you can do to save what’s already broken. This is no longer about repair. It’s time to start thinking about what comes next. It’s time to start moving forward knowing that whatever you had in the past is no longer an option. Will it feel painful, well yes, probably. Things might be broken down but it hurts because of how meaningful it was. Focusing on rebuilding isn’t going to change the damage and any lingering feelings from it. But, knowing things are truly over at least gives you the freedom to heal. You know your situation now which means you can do something about it.

→ The Winter Lovers
There are plenty of confusing cards in the tarot but the Lovers can be especially challenging to understand. So many people see this card and immediately think they’ve met their soul mate. We have to remember that tarot cards are rooted in a culture that doesn’t always accurately reflect the way we live today. Choosing who to marry 100 years ago may have been considered the most important choice one had to make thus it makes sense to align the card of choice with love or more aptly, marriage. But today, we are spoiled for choice and now this card represents so much more than a relationship. It invites you to examine your values and to make your choices based on what’s most important to you. Sometimes that will require sacrifice or having to hold your ground when a heart-led choice is especially challenging. Today, think about whether or not your choices reflect who you want to be and what matters to you. If they do not, it may be time to think about making some new choices.

→ Six of Winter Pentacles
This card represents the exchange of resources and when it appears, you may be the giver or the receiver. Typically we’d look to other cards in a reading to confirm which is more appropriate for you but as a single card, the six of pentacles invites you to understand your relationship with exchange in general. Do you give without expecting to receive something in return? Are you able to ask for help knowing you have nothing to give in return? At its heart, this card reminds you that whatever is given will be paid back. Perhaps not in this moment or any moment soon but all scales will be balanced at some point. Your job is to trust in that. To know that every act needn’t be a one for one exchange. Additionally, this card advises against using “favors” as a way to manipulate. Doing something for someone doesn’t mean you get to take advantage of their hardship by dumping things on them just because you feel you’re owed something. This is true whether you have given or received.

→ Four of Winter Pentacles
This card is your warning sign that you are placing too much value on material possessions. Your hoarding resources when you don’t need to or approaching your finances from a place of unfounded fear. Things are ok now but be mindful that this can be a very lonely road you’re traveling on. This card doesn’t advise you to throw caution to the wind and spend like the world will end tomorrow but, it does remind you that money has no purpose but to spend. If you’re struggling and you have the money to eliminate some of that frustration then do what needs to be done. This card is often a sign that you are much more stable than you’ve allowed yourself to believe. And if money seems tight, then this card likely means you’re focused on material possessions that are nice to have but not what you actually need at this time.

→Four of Winter Wands
The presence of this card means you are in need of a celebration. You may have reached a milestone that you completely brushed off or perhaps there are those around you that would love to share something significant with you. This card can represent a marriage or engagement, a birth, graduation, or the first steps towards living a dream. Something that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated rather than just overlooked. What do you need to pat yourself on the back for today? Is there something you’ve endured or accomplished? Whatever it is, know that you have the right to feel good about it. This is not a time to be humble. This is a moment to collect in your bag of confidence. Something to look back on when you need a boost to get you through.

→ Master of Winter Swords
The Master (king) of Swords is not an emotional kind of energy. This master never responds with emotional pleas or cries when he feels overwhelmed. He is logical in every situation, choosing to rely on cold facts rather than emotional fantasy. He will appear for two reasons. First, to tell you that navigating today is going to require you to use your mind, much more than your heart. That you should not approach your day with fear, despair, anger or any other intense emotion. Wrangle those feelings and look at your situation with clarity. Study facts, not feelings. Second, this card might represent a person who is strict, cold, distant and perhaps an enforcer of some kind. If that is the case, know that they don’t care about your cries but they will help you if you’re willing to help yourself. And they have the knowledge to do it but you have to be willing to put on your adult pants and do what needs to be rather than pleading for a savior.

→ The Winter Hierophant
Follow the rules today. If nothing else, this card is here to tell you that sometimes you don’t know best and that perhaps in this situation, new isn’t better. Some things have stood the test of time because they work. There’s nothing wrong with questioning an established order or set of beliefs but do so because there is a genuine need to do so. Because you can truly see a better way or because you can truly recognize a flaw in the system. Don’t break a rule just because you want to cause chaos. However, seeing something is broken but having no solution to fix it isn’t helpful either. Don’t eliminate something without a plan to replace it and if you can’t do that, then leave good enough alone for now. Ultimately this card invites you to be willing to push back when it is right to do so but to fallback when you have neither the skill or solution to improve upon what’s already established.
