First Impressions

I’ve seen this deck swirling around for a little while now. I believe I saw it on Blue Angel’s Instagram page first and I was immediately taken with it. It’s very similar to the Maidens of the Wheel Oracle cards, illustrated and written by Tammy Wampler, the same artist here. Tammy has a really interesting and unique art style that I describe as witchy baby dolls. Her art is also so earthy which is really my personal favorite style: moody, grounded and just a bit wild. So aesthetic wise, I was totally invested. Then Llewellyn sent me a copy on behalf of Blue Angel to review and I immediately found interesting things about it. Here’s what I know on a first pass: the packaging will be well made (Blue Angel always is), the writing will be amazing (Tess always delivers) and it's pretty (Tammy’s got you covered). So let’s dive in and look at this deck in more detail.

The Packaging

There are some publishers that you know will deliver pretty solid packaging and Blue Angel is one of them. They’ve had great boxes long before anyone else and they’ve stayed consistent in their size and quality for years. I have decks that I bought from them maybe 10-12 years ago now and they are still holding up and they're the same size as this box I now hold in my hands which I love. That means, I can put all of my Blue Angel boxes on the same shelf and they will look beautifully consistent.

This doesn’t matter if you only have a few decks but I have hundreds which means storage is always an issue. Having consistent sizes just makes everything neater and easier to see which means a deck won’t get lost behind something else, never to be seen or heard from again.

The box has a matte finish with a subtle gloss detail on the red lining and the creator’s names. You can only see it in the right light but it does catch your eye from time to time. It’s also on the blue box surrounding the deck name and on the back of the box, most notably on the card images.

I absolutely love the colors of the box. It's so autumnal and moody in fact, I’m in the middle of DIYing a room in very similar tones and it really just feels right this time of the year although I didn’t assign this one fall. But more on that later.

The only thing Blue Angel really doesn’t do is print on the inside of the box and I feel like the back of the cards really don’t get that much attention either. It’s usually just a print and in this case, I really feel like it doesn’t match the artwork or theme at all. It's a tropical motif which to me feels out of place. I’m really not a fan of the back of the cards but the cards themselves are excellent. Nice and thick and the matte finish makes them glide when they shuffle. The cards are large so for my smaller hands, it's harder to hold them but other than that, they shuffle with ease.

My favorite thing about Blue Angel boxes is and always has been the space around the cards. The cards are much smaller than the box, leaving room for me to add crystals, herbs, little notes, charms and so on. I don’t know if that was their intention but that’s how I like to use the space. I’ve been doing this for well over a decade and I still love doing it now. It makes each deck feel special. They each have a different combination of things I’ve added based on the energy that I feel. It’s like a mini altar inside of the box which also means I can travel with one and have a small altar kept inside.

Inside guidebook

The Guidebook

The guidebook is pretty as well. This is a more recent step up for Blue Angel as they used to have black and white guidebooks and much thinner paper. This one is full color, has a slight sheen on much thicker paper, and features images of the cards throughout. Inside the guidebook you will find:

  • An introduction

  • How to prepare your deck

  • How to do a reading

  • A brief paragraph on card readings and two spreads

  • The meanings

For each of the card entries, you have a keyword or phrase, a brief description of the meaning and then a much longer explanation of the meaning. I will say, Blue Angel has always had really long guidebook entries. Some decks have meanings that are two or three pages long. I really appreciated this when I first started reading oracle cards but as I came to grow in my practice, I have found the essay-like meanings to be a lot; too much even. It’s nice to have the smaller paragraph for those days when you don’t want to read through so much. But you still have the option of reading the whole thing if you feel inclined and you should do so at least once.

There’s a lot of information in the expanded meaning including background on each figure which of course influences the meaning. So don’t skip it entirely. Just know that you don’t need to read it through every single time.

Theme

This deck utilizes feminine figures, both goddesses and historical figures, to remind you of your inner wild. To connect you back to the raw, purest form of your being. To understand that you are more than what you’ve been conditioned to be. There’s a part of you that’s still connected to the land, to the blood of your ancestors and to the unlimited force that exists beyond limitations or subjugation.

Zodiac priestess cards

The Artwork

Each card looks like a portrait while maintaining an earthy, rich connection to landscapes and animals. Circles feature quite heavily across all of the cards be it in the shape of moons, suns or stardust. Tammy has a very distinctive style that is both sweet and sometimes a little creepy. It features large eyes, heavily blushed cheeks, and a variety of hairstyles. Tammy is also really great about including various skin tones and cultures which is always nice to see. If you’re someone who has a problem with culturally diverse spiritual tools then I can absolutely confirm these reviews are not for you.

“All the feminine divinities and ascended masters in this deck are here to call you back to your independence and remind you of your power. Your wildness, your magic, and your radiant beauty are already right here, within you. The time to awaken to them is now”

My favorite card is Samovila. I’m not even sure why I’m so attracted to this card. I suppose it's peaceful or perhaps because I love cold weather. Something about it resonates with me and you know, there doesn’t need to be an explanation for it. I’m also fond of the zodiac priestess cards although I will say, I find it strange that there are only a handful of zodiacs. You have Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn and then Aries. I thought perhaps only the feminine signs were included but then Libra and Aries wouldn’t be included.

I can honestly say that as a deck creator, sometimes you have an idea that makes total sense to you! It doesn’t always translate well to everyone else. It’s ok. All authors do this from time to time. It's not an indication of a bad author in any way, it just means we’re regular people too. But I do wish there had been some sort of note or explanation as to why only some are here.

I do like the inclusion of various types of feminine energy from fairies to zodiac signs to queens and even to animals.

Reading With this Deck

What I love most about reading with this deck is that you’re not enabled to be the victim in the meanings. There is acknowledgement of situations that have occurred that aren't your fault but there’s also a clear call to take ownership of the parts you can control. Becoming a victim is never the victim’s fault but staying a victim is. People cause harm and it’s fair to be honest about the hardship such experiences have caused you but there are plenty of people using bad experiences as excuses to stay small, to avoid accountability, and to fuel destructive behaviors.

There are also many decks which seem to almost celebrate or romanticize staying in a place of healing rather than guiding you to move on. I didn’t get that sense here. I felt held in my readings and validated but also received many signs to do something about outdated beliefs and habits. Cards which told me to get to work, to address recurring issues and to avoid limiting myself to just what is in front of me. I am a tough love sort of author so perhaps this is me enjoying the kind of guidance I like to write. But I truly believe no one is going to change by being coddled. So I appreciate it whenever someone writes meanings that are supportive but accompany a good dose of its time to get your shit together.

Collective Pull

Collective Pull

I pulled Eagle Priestess for you. You’re being asked to rise above your human need to be seen as right, special, or important. The Eagle Priestess reminds you that wisdom isn’t found in proving your power, it’s found in remembering that you are power itself. When you stop grasping for validation, the air around you clears, and your intuition sharpens into something luminous.

There’s an invitation here to zoom out—to see your life from the height of the eagle’s flight. What feels all-consuming today may be a single thread in a much larger tapestry of growth. Try not to get entangled in the dramas or distractions that drain your spirit. Instead, lift your gaze toward the sun at the center of your being. Breathe into that light until you remember your wholeness.

From this altitude, clarity returns. You may see where you’ve been hiding behind old stories or presenting a polished version of yourself out of fear. Let those masks fall away. Your soul doesn’t need to perform to be divine.

Pause before reacting, soften your ego’s edges, and reconnect to the infinite intelligence moving through you. The truth will reveal itself when you stop trying to control how it arrives.

Season, Sign, Element and Sabbat

I chose Spring, more specifically early spring for the Season. It feels autumnal because the tones are more muted but I think in terms of colors and imagery, it feels more like early spring. That time of the year when it’s still kind of winter but also kinda of spring. Everything takes on this kind of pastel quality. Things are soft but also starting to look more and more vibrant by the day. That’s the experience I have when looking through this deck so while the box speaks to me of fall, the cards feel just like spring.

I went with Virgo for the sign mostly because of the priestess cards. Virgo has and will probably always be the priestess sign for me. I know it feels like it should probably be Scorpio or Pisces but Virgo is just more grounded being an earth sign and more connected to the land in my opinion. Also, Virgo is associated with acts of service which many of these feminine figures fully embody.

I chose Ostara for the sabbat mostly because of the early spring thing. Also, the deck is about awakening to your inner wild and that feels like an Ostara energy. Finally, I wanted to choose water for the element but decided to choose all of the elements instead. A wild witch doesn’t just work with one or the other so it didn’t feel right to reduce this deck to just one.

Who is this deck for?

This deck is for the seeker who’s ready to stop circling their pain and start transforming it. It’s for the intuitive who craves depth and honesty over fluff and empowerment over endless “healing.” If you’re the kind of reader who appreciates being lovingly called out when you’ve outgrown an old pattern — this deck will speak your language.

It doesn’t enable you to stay stuck in victimhood. Instead, it holds space for your pain and hands you the tools to rise above it. The messages here are compassionate but firm, asking you to take responsibility for what’s yours and release what’s not. There’s validation, yes — but also a clear invitation to move forward.

Visually, it’s a dream for anyone drawn to earthy, feminine imagery that feels equal parts soft and wild. Tammy Wampler’s art has that moody, doll-like quality that feels both grounded and enchanted — perfect for those who love a touch of shadow and sweetness at the same time.

Ultimately, this deck is for anyone who wants to remember their wildness and reclaim their wholeness.

Deck Companion

I chose Tarot of the Goddesses as the companion for this deck. I had it near my desk since I just got it in a recent review box and just decided to try it on a whim. Then I found that I really loved it. The art is similar, especially in color but they each hold their own. But because Tarot of the Goddesses is all about feminine energy, I thought they complement each other quite well. And then I took photos of them together and they seemed like they were a perfect match.
