Stillness for Lammas: A Modern Guide to Knowing What’s Next

The weather’s been weird this year, at least in Los Angeles where I live. Days feel like fall, nights burn like summer, and somehow I’m caught somewhere in between. I’m not rushing toward the light like I did this time last year. Honestly? My glow feels a little dim right now.

I’ve felt scorched, withdrawn, and like a shadow is forever looming over my shoulder. But I also feel weirdly full of possibility.

Lammas isn’t showing up for me this year in the golden, sunlit, abundant way we often imagine it. Instead, it feels like that part of the movie when everything gets quiet right before the big moment—the inhale before shit gets real and the big life changing moments happen. The pause where you actually sit with your life and ask:

“Is this working? Is this what I want to carry into the next season?”

Let’s be honest… a lot of us aren’t feeling very “harvesty” right now. And that’s okay.

Lammas, Reimagined

We like to talk about Yule as the time to reflect, but Lammas is when I really feel it in my body. It’s the moment to look around and say:

  • What’s falling apart?

  • What’s still worth tending to?

  • Where am I pushing too hard—or not hard enough?

It’s the Seven of Pentacles season. The “is this it?” energy. The moment to question whether you’re still aligned with what you’ve built, or if something quietly shifted while you weren’t paying attention.

And here’s the thing: most people aren’t harvesting wheat, baking bread from scratch, or filling their root cellar with produce to make it through the winter—we just don’t live like this in modern times. Lammas gets overlooked because we don’t know what to do with it anymore. So we assign it this vague pressure to feel “successful”—and then feel like failures when we don’t.

But Lammas was never meant to make you feel behind. It’s the check-in. The whisper of truth before the leaves fall.

Lammas as a Luxury Mindset

If Lammas had a passport stamp, it would be August in Europe. Everything closes. Everyone rests. The heat is too much, and honestly? That’s the point.

Luxury during Lammas looks like:

  • Doing less

  • Sleeping in

  • Checking out (on purpose)

  • Eating the damn carbs

  • Drinking the damn wine

  • Giving your body what it craves, without apology

Rest isn’t a reward for success—it’s part of the cycle.

The Seasonal Spark: Indulgence, On Purpose

This isn’t about numbing out. It’s about listening. If your body, mind or spirit are craving something extra then give it something extra. So if your body says “more wine, more butter, more sleep, more dancing,” then the answer is yes

My Lammas starter pack?

  • A glass of chilled white wine

  • Crusty bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar

  • A cute bathing suit and a juicy book you’ll finish in one day

Sometimes the most sacred ritual is letting go of guilt and letting life’s simple pleasures be enough.

Your Card for Lammas

Weeds — from Seasons of the Witch: Lammas Oracle

Weeds — from Seasons of the Witch: Lammas Oracle
This card is a call-out in the best way. It reminds us that the things we avoid—our fears, blocks, and old wounds—don’t go away. They spread. Like spiritual weeds, they choke out everything else until we finally deal with them. Lammas asks us to clear space. Not for aesthetics, but for survival.

“The answer to your question isn’t ‘no,’ but it is ‘not right now.’ You’ve got some weeding to do.”

Seven of Pentacles — RWS Tarot
This is your “Is this worth it?” card. It’s not about quitting. It’s about checking in. Do you like where you’re headed? Are you planting things you’ll actually want to harvest later?

It’s not quitting if you’re letting go of something that isn’t aligned. Success isn’t about checking off a to-do list or beating yourself into submission when you’d rather be doing anything else. It's about accomplishing that feels good, that warms your heart and makes all of that hard work worth it.

What Comes Next?

If this season has you feeling off, that’s okay. You don’t have to shine right now—you just have to be honest.
