I’m writing this paragraph on Sunday, September 6th as I look out my window. It’s been pouring rain all day which is unusual for Los Angeles for this time of year. Rain in September? I’m sorry but what? It’s usually incredibly hot in September but this year, fall seemed to arrive right on September 1st. And it’s not just the weather. It seems Autumn is desperately trying to move in while Summer seems happy to leave. I see this energy reflected in the cards too. Nearly every card this week is introspective just like we’ve all come to expect from the Autumn Season.
You’re currently being guided to understand your motivations. What do you want? What drives you? What values are important to you? And how much are you willing to pivot to find a positive outcome? All of this sounds easy to answer in theory but in real life, it takes an enormous amount of self-awareness and often years, even a lifetime, worth of self-inquiry. But I think now, more than ever, knowing who you are is so important. The world has a lot of opinions that you can easily adopt if don’t have a good sense of your North Star.
Let this week’s cards guide you towards deeper insight. Take the time to ask who am I? And not just in theory. Not just as a passing thought. Write yourself down. Look at all of the things that make up you from your family to your friends to what pisses you off, what you gravitate towards, what you loved once and don’t any longer. Research yourself. The truth of who you are is in there, you just gotta get to know them.

→ Falling Leaves
I swear it feels like this year is the end of an era and this card seemingly confirms that feeling. It represents an ending and one that you aren’t too happy about. It might be abrupt, chaotic, overwhelming or just heartbreaking. You may be able to recognize that this ending is for the best but that doesn’t mean it won’t sting. Because this is a daily card, don’t expect it to be too dramatic. Some of you might experience something really big but for the most part, it will be something pretty small like news that your favorite tv show is ending or confirmation that your favorite co-worker is leaving. It won’t break you but it might break your heart just a bit. Or it might feel like one more thing you have to mourn, even if it feels unreasonable to do so. Don’t try to diminish whatever you feel regardless of the subject. Give yourself some space to grieve as you see fit and to acknowledge the hardship of change.

→ Coming of Darkness
Your soul is asking you to be better prepared for when things don’t work out the way you hoped. It's fine to have expectations but not to assume your desired outcome is the only way things can work out. I find most people believe the phrase “working in my favor” means getting exactly what you want. When really, it means you’re getting what you need in a way that makes sense for the universe. And sometimes that means things aren’t going to play out the way you want it too, or things won’t be as easy as you would like them to be, or you’re required to go through steps you weren’t expecting to take. This card is your soul’s way of saying, be prepared to change directions, pitch your idea to whoever will listen, or trust that a dead end just means try a different way. Surrendering isn’t about trusting your vision will come to life, it's about letting spirit show you what you actually need and listening to the signs when they drop into your lap.

→ Corn Maze
What are your values and beliefs? What things are you not willing to compromise? I find a lot of people do not have a solid concept of their belief system. There are things that are socio-normative like treating others the way you want to be treated or saying please, thank you and excuse me. But what are the things that you actually live by? For some, you may sit and think about it and realize you want to live a life of beauty or creativity. For others, well-being might be your motivation or living from a place of love. For others still, education might drive you or reaching a certain level of status. And it doesn’t matter if your values don’t fit neatly into other’s ideas. If you want to be successful and ambitious, that is your right babe. If you want to be a homemaker, who cares what other people think. Fulfillment doesn’t come by living to other’s standards. It’s about listening to what’s important to you and making a plan to achieve it.

→ Crow
With this card, I have found those who are typically positive interpret this card as a useful message. But those that are fearful or negative usually see this card as a warning. I wish I could say that was my intention when writing it but it was just a happy accident. I’m glad it invokes different things for different people though. That means the spirit of the Crow is really felt in this card as crows are both good and bad omens, depending on who you ask. So today, I ask you to contemplate what this card means for you. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and answer this: is this card a good message or bad? Take whatever response comes first. Don’t question it or give it reason, just accept it and embrace it. Then look out for the message throughout the day.

→Pomegranate
What are your interests? What do you care about? What does your mind drift to when you daydream? These are the types of questions to answer when you receive pomegranate. Your desires are not accidents or flights of fancy. What they are is information telling you what your soul needs to be fulfilled. But when you dismiss what you feel, you find yourself in a sea of confusion and doubt. You don’t need anyone to tell you what you want to do with your life. You don’t need anything to show you the path. What you need is trust in yourself. You need to stop denying what you love. Go where your heart tells you today. Just let yourself entertain the thought of that crazy idea. Does it light you up? Then think about it more. Are you getting more excited? Then perhaps you need to pull this string. And maybe you won’t become an actor or move to the countryside but that doesn’t mean that idea can’t be a stepping stone to something else. But you’ll never find out unless you follow the breadcrumb.

→ Scarecrow
Lean in on your spiritual support team. You might be doing this already in some form or another. Perhaps in the form of spells, prayers, or speaking to your ancestors. But there is a need to do more and to actually believe your support team has your back. When you ask for help from your guides and then don’t believe help is on the way, you shut them out. This card suggests you have an easy time connecting with your ancestors or guides when you take the time to do it. But it isn’t enough to ask for help. You have to learn to trust them too. Imagine if you asked a friend for help and then micromanaged every way they tried to offer you support. They probably won’t be as keen to step in again. Your spiritual support team is no different. It doesn’t matter if you’re seeking guidance from god or the universe, an angel or a deity. You have to be willing to put your faith in them.

→ Molasses
This card indicates feeling stuck. It's a difference from laziness. It's not that you don’t want to do anything, it's more like a lack of clarity—you just don’t know what to do to move forward. This is a common issue. Many people feel called to something greater but can’t put their finger on what that something is. Receiving this card means you aren’t stuck because you can’t figure things out: you’re stuck so that you CAN figure things out. Molasses almost always appear right after you’ve been moving too fast. That could mean making mindless choices, saying yes to too much, perhaps saying no to too much, or doing a lot of things with no real results. And now, you are being gifted with this period of stagnation so that for one, you can catch your breath. And two, so that you can take your time and make intentional choices. Remember Corn Maze from yesterday? You need to understand what’s important to you before you know how to move forward. So slow down, take your time and think things through.
