We are still in the midst of Mercury Retrograde until November 13th and this week’s cards have pushed hard on that narrative. There is so much energy here about letting the past go, tying up loose ends and figuring out what you’re carrying that isn’t really yours to carry. There’s a need to do a lot of reflection this week. To understand how much you’ve let the past hold you back. We see the Tower most notably which is never a welcome sight. But as I mention in the cards below, it can be devastating as much as liberating. I hope you chose to see it as the latter.

The week isn’t all chaos though. We see both the empress and the fool and the eight of wands. There’s lots of fresh, new energy coming this week. So yes it might seem like a rollercoaster ride but those can be exciting too. Do your best to blow where the wind takes you especially if it takes away from something. Remember that things resurfacing from your past doesn’t necessarily mean that’s your sign for them to stay. Things often come back around so that they can permanently end not so that you can fall back into a destructive experience. Listen to yourself. Listen to who you are today. Not who you were and not who someone else wants you to be. But listen to the part of you that knows what you need and trust in that voice. A heart doesn’t want pain, frustration, disappointment and fear. Whatever is telling you that’s what you want isn’t the heart, it’s something else. So block out the noise and find your truth. That will always lead you down the right path.

→ Ten of Autumn Wands

Martyring yourself in the name of responsibility or care for others isn't noble, it's self-destructive. There’s no honor in working yourself far past your limits or in letting someone suck you dry. There’s also no shame in saying no! There’s no guilt required for removing someone’s access to you when they haven’t been responsible for how much they take. And it’s not laziness to rest when you’re struggling to get through the day. Humans need rest and care. That is not a romantic notion, it's a biological one. And when this card comes along, it’s to ask you to take even just a moment, to put yourself and your needs first. To say “today, I am going to be a self-caretaker.” Sometimes that will mean you can’t show up for someone or you can’t do them a favor or you can’t fix the problem. And sometimes caring for others means making them learn to care for themselves. It teaches them resilience and reminds you that you don’t have to be anyone’s hero but your own.

→ The Autumn Fool

Today’s card is encouragement to welcome something new. But before you quit your job or suddenly move to a foreign country, consider that new doesn’t need to be dramatic. We often think of the fool as doing something incredibly reckless but this card isn’t necessarily about taking dangerous leaps so much as it's about recognizing your comfort zone is no longer comfortable and that something needs to change. That something could be physical sure but it can also be an attitude, an idea, the way you go about doing something or a perspective shifting. It can also be the first step of many but know that the first step doesn’t need to be the most dramatic or public one. Making a small choice in the right decision and then making another is much more impactful than waiting for the right moment to take one big action.  So today, contemplate what needs to change in your life and then shift it just a little bit. It may seem insignificant or even imperceptible and that’s ok. You don’t need to announce it for it to have meaning for you. You took the first step and that’s all that matters today.

→ The Autumn Tower

Loss is often bittersweet. It can be devastating while simultaneously liberating. Sometimes we hold on so tight to what we have because for better or worse, it's ours or at least, it feels that way. But nothing is truly ours except ourselves. Material possessions only have meaning because we assign them meaning. Humans have molded life to be something we can possess and control, giving us a false sense of ownership we never truly had. So when things shift or are taken away, it feels like a part of us dies too because we’ve convinced ourselves it was a part of us. The tower reminds us how untrue that is. It demands you part ways with things that were never meant to be permanent. It’s giving you freedom, albeit a freedom you didn’t ask for, but one that you needed all the same. Today, something might end for you. It could be all the scary things we think about when this card comes up like a lost job or sudden divorce. But it could also be versions of you that you realize are not coming back. Ideas or goals or relationships that have long ended but suddenly feel final. Today is a confirmation that some things aren’t coming back regardless of how much you hope otherwise. This card is here to liberate you from that past so that you can actually start embracing a new future.

→ Six of Autumn Cups

Well its still Mercury Retrograde so its not surprising to see this card as its one about reliving the past. It’s one of memories and nostalgia and sometimes things we’ve inherited without our permission. Things like traditions and ideas and ways of being that served those who came before but may not necessarily serve us now. This card has appeared to invite you to examine those past connections to see if they still hold truth for you or if they ever did. An old lover might resurface for example but that doesn’t mean you need to rekindle things. Sometimes it means you need to hold the line and choose yourself rather than falling into old habits. You might stumble upon an old idea in a notebook. That could mean giving it a try or it could recognize you’re no longer the person who had that idea and you don’t want to be. My point is that the past often surfaces for closure not renewed commitment.

→Two of Autumn Pentacles

Who are you? Who are you without the job, the kids, the partner, the friends, your family, where you live, what you drive? Who are you without the external armor of expectations and successes and obligations? This card can appear when you do so much, balance everything that’s placed on your plate and still, the cracks begin to show. You’re being asked to find the balance between who you are and who the world expects you to be. Not just to find time for work and to spend with your family although that’s important too. But to find time for yourself and what matters to you. When you have a north star, when you know what is the single most important thing in your life, all other choices can be made from the sense of direction. Expectations that don’t meet those values can fall away and you can chase the dreams that actually belong to you. Today, contemplate whether or not what you’re balancing is even something you truly wish to hold. Perhaps the juggle might be easier if you let go of things that don’t need a space in your life.

→ The Autumn Empress

Just set aside the whole self-care playbook for a moment and check in with yourself. What do you actually need to flourish? Sure, baths and boundaries are nice and so are vacations and creative play. But nice doesn’t mean right for you. You might need to pay your bills on time to avoid late fees or you might need one hour a day where no one can reach you. You might to get a monthly massage or perhaps you need to spend the weekend working on your side hustle. My point is that everyone’s version of thriving looks different. Some people thrive in relationships, some at work, some being a parent and some doing all of the above. The empress wants you to find your version of blossoming and chase it relentlessly. Don’t worry about whether or not you’re creative enough or pretty enough or whatever. Focus on what you need to feel solid. That’s why Persephone is the empress in this deck. She thrives both in the underworld and above it and she doesn’t apologize for either. You don’t need to either. Do what works for you and makes you feel whole.

→ Eight of Autumn Wands

The eight of wands brings a burst of fresh momentum. Things that were unclear before are suddenly clicking into place. Delays suddenly rush forward or news arrives after a period of silence. It can feel like someone plugged in the light after looking around in the dark for the outlet. This is exciting but can also be overwhelming. You’ll have to make quick decisions and be ready to change direction with little to no notice. This is a daily pull so it might be as dramatic as that but you can expect something to catch speed. Either an idea or perhaps something in real life. Whatever it is, do your best to go with the flow. Don’t fight against it or try to slow things down. Catch the wind and let it blow you wherever it wishes to take you. You don’t always need to know where you’re going. Sometimes you just need to hold on and enjoy the ride.
