I’m doing things a bit differently this month. You might noticed that July’s cards are in richer tones than what you might expect for the summer. I prefer to work with Lammas Oracle in August rather than July which leaves me wondering which oracle cards to use in the months between sabbats. The new Seasons of the Witch Tarots fills that space nicely but alas, Summer Tarot is not available just yet. But, Autumn tarot will be available this summer and I thought the daily pulls would be a great place to preview as many cards as possible.
So while it is not a summer deck, I hope you don’t mind me using them for this month. And the meanings are taken almost verbatim from the guidebook so you get the added bonus of previewing some of what I’ve written. Some are cut down for length or edited (this is taken from my pre-edited manuscript) but for the most part, this is what you will find in the real Autumn Tarot guidebook.
I would love to know if there’s a card that speaks to your heart as the month goes on. I’m especially proud of this one. In fact, it might be my favorite writings out of all the decks I’ve created.

→ Herbcrafting
Receiving this card can mean several things but for this week, I feel strongly that it's saying you don’t need an answer today. If there’s a problem you've been trying to solve then take a break from it. Brute force of will is not always the way. Sometimes you need to step away from something for better perspective or even just to give your mind and body some time to rest. Replenishment allows your body the chance to heal which will ultimately lead to a clearer mind. As you take this time away from your problem, try grounding yourself. Reconnect to your physical body or the earth. Allow yourself to experience the pleasure of being present without drifting to other tasks or worries. I know that’s hard, especially when you have a huge problem to deal with. But if obsessing over something 24 hours a day could solve your problem, then you would’ve had the fix already.

→ Hummingbird
The hummingbird presents itself to you when you have become too rigid in some way. You may be falling victim to tunnel vision, getting stuck in an outdated version of yourself, doing things in an outdated way, or have reached a point of stagnation. Thinking this way will cause trouble for you today. Be mindful about digging your heels in as being right may not be worth the cause. Remember that someone doesn’t need to agree with you for something to be true or for it to be true for you. Nor should you expect others to do something your way. Get out of the idea that there’s only one path to achieve something. In that sense, this card could mean you need to consider a new direction or face being left behind in your stubbornness.

→ Six of Autumn Cups
While this card typically represents nostalgia in autumn it becomes something deeper, leaning more into emotional inheritance. It’s the ephemeral heirlooms shared like traditions or songs, memories or a scent that stirs up something buried, reminding you of a time long since passed. After the immense grief of the five of autumn cups, one can never predict when this card represents a blessing or a burden. Not all sojourns through the past are welcome. Some are too painful to hold even when they remind you of something once loved. But it's your shared connections which give you legacy—for better or worse. This card invites you to examine which legacies you wish to carry forward. You may have scripts that didn’t originate with you or grief you’ve carried through your bones. Or you’re stuck in the past, reliving a version of events that cannot be restored. In which case it may be time to begin a journey towards healing, finally putting something to rest. However, the past isn’t always mournful. For some, this card will be a blessing indeed and represent a reconnection to something that once held great meaning. You might rekindle an ancestral tradition, return to a childhood passion, discover roots you didn’t know you had, or extend an olive branch which restores a tarnished relationship.

→ Ten of Autumn Wands
This card appears when passion turns into obligation and inspiration is buried beneath exhaustion. It represents the times you have worked yourself to the bone: doing for everyone else while ignoring the warning signs that you cannot go on like this. This is burnout, depletion, being over-needed and the cost of carrying too much. There’s nothing wrong with acts of service and carrying responsibility, but when they strip you of joy and vitality, they no longer serve you or even those you love. This card reminds you that you cannot continue without rest, regardless of how dedicated or committed you are. When the Ten of Autumn Wands appears, it is both a warning and an invitation. It warns that you may be carrying more than is sustainable, stretching yourself far too thin in the name of proving worth, keeping up with demands or honoring agreements. It also invites you to lay some of that burden down and to ask for help or to simply learn to say NO. Rest is not failure or an indication of your value. It’s part of the journey and it's definitely within your right to demand it.

→Ten of Autumn Cups
The ten of autumn cups invites you to reflect on the legacy of joy. To contemplate how your own healing journey may serve as a map for others. The process of returning to yourself is for you, make no mistake about that. But what comes next is for those around you. For the people you unknowingly nurture by freeing yourself of old wounds. Each trauma healed is a cycle broken, one less person to project hurt onto. It’s the children who won’t know the sting of rejection for who they are or the future friends who can recognize you as one of their own because the light you shine is honest. The ten of cups has a tendency to represent “happily ever after” and this is not that. The ten of autumn cups is real, slowly shaped through the boundaries set, the vulnerabilities exposed and the choices made to honor nascent connections. It's the house you’ve built that will be that house which builds others. It probably doesn’t look like what you imagined when this all started. Perhaps you shifted from one identity to another or who you thought you would resonate with were drawn to an old version of you. But deep fulfillment has emerged despite all you’ve endured.

→ The Devil
We all have a devil within us. Parts or shadows that encourage us to give into temptation. However, autumn is the season of shadow work and while this card may appear destructive on the surface, there is a positive meaning lurking here too. The Autumn Devil can show you your desires. It can point to the ways you’re being called to liberate yourself from convention and socio-normative behavior. The key isn’t to deny yourself indulgence but to be mindful not to become a slave to it. Remember that you are in control. You can decide where and how much to invest your efforts. Self-destruction can be both choosing poor habits and choosing to deny expressing yourself to make others comfortable. It can manifest in having an addiction to things like drugs or alcohol just as easily as being addicted to being skinny and maintaining beauty standards. Or it can be the fine line between playing the victim and playing the martyr. At its root, this card reminds you that short term gains often lead to long term implications, no matter how well-intentioned you may be. Therefore, if you walk away from this card with nothing else, let it be that compromising yourself for a quick but fleeting pay off is ill-advised.

→ Nine of Swords
Autumn is a liminal space. It marks a transition allowing us to at once release and to prepare for something new. The six of autumn swords also stand in the in-between. It represents the moment when you aren’t fully healed but you aren’t completely standing in the grief either. There’s an openness to this card. The potential for so much possibility. And yes, that means there’s a fair amount of uncertainty too. But what you can know for certain is that you’re no longer a fit in the space you came from. Maybe you've hurt yourself too many times by holding on too long, hoping things would change. Or you’re unable to fully heal while living in the midst of what continues to cause you pain. Perhaps you’ve hurt others too and no amount of apology will ease the suffering—for them or for you. There’s nothing to be done for what was but there’s hope to be had in knowing the future can be vastly different from the past. There’s a delicious sense of freedom in that alone. This departure isn’t meant to be loud. There’s no need for a dramatic declaration of intent. You are not required to seek validation, praise, permission or understanding. This departure isn’t for anyone else but you as a way to honor your own need for healing and peace.
