The fourth week of December holds the strange liminal space between Christmas and New Year's—a time when the world tells us to keep celebrating while our bodies are begging us to stop. These cards meet us exactly where we are: tired, possibly overstimulated, and trying to navigate family dynamics while maintaining our own sense of peace.
This week asks us to reconnect with the parts of ourselves we've abandoned in the name of being productive adults, to take responsibility for the power of our words, and to lean into traditions that ground us rather than reaching for something new. There's a thread of protection here too—reminders to clear negativity, to control what we can control, and to remove ourselves from hostility when we need to.
But most importantly, these cards challenge us to question what we actually need to be happy. As the year winds down, we're being invited to discover that joy requires far less than we've been led to believe, and that rest isn't something we earn—it's medicine we desperately need.

→ Remembering
Remembering appears for you when your soul has been soured by life. When responsibilities weigh too heavy, when fears twist your gut and when the harsh realities of being an adult disconnect you from your sense of wonder, ease and play. We all experience it: a loss of our inner child. We forget what it means to simply exist in an effort to survive the day. We replace laughter with anxiety, often leading to sadness and tears. We exchange imagination and whimsy for practicality in the name of being a grown up. This card’s sole purpose is to address the lies we’ve been made to believe. The lie that to be an adult means you have to forget being happy. Growing up isn’t the end of your ability to have fun. Perhaps you cannot do so as freely as you did in younger years but you still have the right to realign yourself with that child within. Take today to do something fun or silly or anything that makes you feel carefree. Your soul needs this medicine today, so much more than you realize.

→ Telling Stories
The voice has so much more power than we give it credit for. And not just the voice spoken aloud but the one inside your mind as well. Your voice can encourage or it can diminish. Words can be a weapon. Gossip can destroy someone’s reputation and malicious criticism can ruin someone’s confidence. Telling Stories appears in a reading to remind you that words matter. The stories you tell yourself and others are just as important as the stories told to you as a child. Would you read your kids a bedtime story if it encouraged them to be cruel or to bully others? We don’t think about this enough as adults. We justify our unkind words by claiming it was anger or unfairness which prompted us to speak in such a malicious way. But this card wants you to take responsibility for the things you say. To use this power for good.

→ Family
Today is a day of connecting with those who love you most. For some, that’s going home for the holidays. It’s being with those who have been with you since birth. For others, it looks like connecting with the people who may not share blood but are your family all the same. It’s allowing the people who love you to support you. This card is about understanding the foundations that have made you. The traditions you still feel compelled to enjoy. And the beliefs and values which you hold sacred in your heart. Today, lean into these time honored practices. Today is not a day to try something new but to be held by the things that have held you for years. Tradition can ground you when the world feels in chaos. It brings memories to the surface that fill you with joy or it gives you reason to hope when perhaps hope is something you’ve had too little of recently. This card is especially important if you’ve been feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or overstimulated. Let go of the need to chase today and instead settle into something familiar. It will bring you comfort and help to ground your energy.

→ Ringing the Bells
This card is a warning letting you know negativity is holding on to you that must be cleared. Someone might be too critical of you today. They might try to knock you down a few notches or seem to go out of their way to pick on you. Do not give into this energy. Do not let their pettiness and smallness bring you down. For some, this card can represent you as the negative energy. You might feel compelled to give a response born in long held anger, frustration or fear. Perhaps a wound has been with you for so long that you cannot see that the threat is no longer there. We often talk about the importance of family during this time but for some, family is a source of heartache more so than comfort. If that is you, then you’ll know that you can’t control what others are doing but you can control how you respond. Take steps to clear your energy before engaging in what might be a negative environment and remove yourself from hostility, even if just for a few moments when you cannot respond from a calm and centered place. You’ll get through today as long as you can remember that you are in control of how you feel.

→Darkest Hour
This card asks an important question, especially for this time of the year: what’s actually necessary for your happiness? Take a moment to sit with that question. Don’t respond immediately. If you do, you’re likely to say the rehearsed answer. The one you’ve told yourself for years without actually examining where this answer came from. Perhaps it was you but perhaps it was also your mom, a teacher, or a cultural expectation. You might feel inclined to say money is what’s needed to make you happy or your career. But is that actually true? Is happiness not available without money? Is there no joy found in things that are free? Could happiness be found in another career that offers less stress or frustration? It's so easy to assume material possessions are a requirement for happiness but the truth is that nothing is needed to be happy. Happiness is something you can obtain without needing to pay for it. So as we head into a new year, ask yourself what you truly need next year to experience joy. It’s probably a lot less than you’ve let yourself believe.

→ Silent Night
Take the day for a pause. Don’t worry about what comes next or what you have to do before the year is over. Don’t worry about reflecting or evaluating your progress. Just let today be a day to rest in gentleness. Meditate without asking a question; let an answer come to you instead. Let spirit show you something you don’t know you need. Let your soul guide you to a deeper question you haven’t known to ask. Winter is a season for rest. Our society hustles so much during this time when the medicine is to find ease. To give your spirit time to slow all the way down. To remove the pressure to get shit down and to relax so that you're ready to act come spring not come the new year. If something isn’t important for today, or isn’t time sensitive then give yourself permission to sit it down. It will be there tomorrow after you’ve had a chance to exhale and come back to center.

→ Cold Moon
Focusing on the negative is almost second nature to most people. To dwell on what’s wrong, what’s missing, what’s unfair or what’s strange has somehow become synonymous with seeking personal growth. We tell ourselves that we’re just identifying problems or that we’re reflecting. When really, what we’re doing is self-bullying. We’re allowing ourselves to be our own haters by ripping apart every single way that we don’t measure up to our often unrealistic expectations. Cold Moon has appeared in this reading to bring clarity to what’s actually important: the ways in which you’re getting it right. The things that did go well or that have exceeded your expectations. To choose to invest in the positive comment rather than the negative one. That’s not to say you shouldn’t reflect on things that are less than perfect. But the goal is to reflect and make a plan to change it rather than just dwelling on it as a form of self-punishment.
