First Impressions
I pretty much wanted to review this deck because of one single card: Tune into your feminine lineage. I saw it online and loved the image immediately, primarily because it features what appears to be all POC women and because the main subject reminds me of my grandmother who is no longer with us. You’d think we’d be past decks that are all white in 2025 but we are not. So whenever I see other people being represented, and especially in a really beautiful way like this, then I’m immediately interested. In truth, I’m not that into ancestral wisdom decks. It's not that I don’t like ancestral magic but I haven’t found a deck that really speaks to me. Probably because everyone’s ancestry is different so it feels reductive to try to force ancestry into a deck, especially if it doesn’t represent everyone. But so far, we’re off to a good start so let’s dive in and see how the rest of this goes.
The Packaging
The box is great. It's one of Rockpool’s more luxe boxes with a book fold top and full color printing. I like the red color. I’m very into red this year; it also happens to be a very popular color trend this year if that’s something you care about. But of course, it corresponds to blood and being an ancestral deck, that feels like a wise choice. There’s also gold foil throughout and glossy printing on the side of the box while the vast majority of the box is matte.
I will never stop saying this but thank goodness for matte. It’s just superior, end of. There’s a platform inside to hold the cards and you also get a thick ribbon to lift them out of the box. The cards themselves are your standard oracle size and easy enough to shuffle. And the cards are matte printed although they look like they have a semi-gloss if I’m being honest. There’s a little bit of a shine but it's so subtle that it's probably safer to say matte.
Finally, the edges are gilded in gold. I won’t lie, I would’ve liked to see a deep red or burgundy. That would’ve made this extra special. Rockpool always does a color edge and they are known for doing unusual colors. I feel like gold is fine but it's nothing special. A red would’ve been a knock out for sure.
The Guidebook
The guidebook is full color with an olive greenish-beige background and it includes:
An introduction
How to use the cards
And four spreads
For each card, you get the card name, the meaning and then a healing practice. Not the thickest guidebook by any means and you aren’t getting anything super special. However, I really appreciate the “how to use the cards” section as it offers some questions to ask when interpreting the cards. Questions like what’s the mood or does it remind you of a memory. These are the types of questions you should be asking when doing a reading so I’m happy to see such a thoughtful and informative list.
I do wish there had been a bit more to the guidebook though, especially with it being an ancestral deck. Maybe some information on how to connect with your ancestors or what to do if you aren’t familiar with your ancestors. However, if you need a really amazing resource on ancestral magic then check out the Book of Ancestors by Claire Goodchild. That book is pretty fucking amazing when it comes to connecting with and healing your lineage regardless of what your background is. It even offers insight on researching your lineage and ways to attend to this connection.
Theme
The theme is obviously ancestral healing although I’d say it's less about healing and more about ancestral connection. There are some great card names like Meet your Ancestral Shadow and Learn From Family Patterns but then there are some cards that are more general like Create Healthy Boundaries and Live Your True Purpose. So you do get a good number of cards that speak directly to ancestral work but also some that feel like they could be in any oracle deck.
The Artwork
Let’s talk about artwork now starting with Tune in to Your Feminine Lineage. I talked about this card a bit earlier because it's the sole reason I wanted to review this deck. All of the women featured in this card are stunning—regal even. And it helps that they are all POC. In fact, you have a really nice mix of cultures here that are properly represented. Sometimes it can be harder to distinguish Asian people or Latinx people in artwork but you can clearly see different types of people here which is always a welcome sight. Discover Your Divine Feminine has a similar vibe to Tune in to Your Feminine Lineage.
“Every image in the card deck has been consciously created to help you gain deeper insight into yourself and your family and to grow, so please give yourself the time required to feel what each card brings up and allow it to speak to a more profound meaning of what the card is about.”
I also like the inclusion of men. I get it, men have been ruling the world for thousands of years and now women need their due but that doesn’t mean we have to cut men out of everything spiritual. It’s nice to see decks which offer some men. It doesn’t have to be a lot but even just one or two makes a deck feel more balanced. I especially love Reconnect With Your Divine Masculine primarily because this guy looks so at peace. To me it says he has embraced his divine masculine and feminine nature and now he is at peace with who he is as a whole.
In general, the artwork is quite complex. I happen to know the artist so I know for a fact, each of these images are dozens and sometimes hundreds of layers deep. But even if I didn’t know Jena, you can obviously see a lot went into each card. Stop Looking For Quick Fixes for example, has are so many things swirling around in the background so you could spend hours picking this one apart. And the same could be said for nearly every image in the deck.
Reading With this Deck
I will say that not every reading has been related to my family at all. There are definitely some cards that were less about family and ancestry and more about me in general. However, I have pulled my fair share of ancestral cards from this deck. In fact, I started this review just after a pretty huge fight with my dad and of course the card I pulled first from this deck was Explore Your Relationship With Your Father. It was so accurate that I was honestly pretty annoyed to be called out so intensely.
I don’t think this is the kind of deck that will work for every situation. While some cards aren’t directly related to ancestral healing, from my experience with it, it's best if you ask questions related to past traumas, familial influences, and inherited baggage. Here are some questions you might consider:
What beliefs around money have I inherited?
What ancestral traumas am I expressing in my life?
What’s something from my past that’s preventing me from having all that I desire?
How can I connect with my ancestors?
What ancestral wound should I focus on healing?
Which part of my ancestry is the strongest/weakest?
Collective Pull
I pulled Learn from family patterns for you. Every family carries patterns—beliefs, fears, and habits passed down through generations. Some of these can be empowering, but others may quietly limit you. This card asks you to notice what cycles you’ve inherited around love, money, health, or success, and decide which ones you’re ready to release. You don’t have to repeat the struggles of those who came before you. By asking questions, exploring the untold stories, and tuning into what feels heavy or misplaced, you gain the clarity to choose differently. Honor your lineage, but make sure the path you walk is one that empowers you to move forward.
Season, Sign, Element and Sabbat
There is a warmth to this deck that feels directly connected to Autumn, not to mention, autumn is an excellent time to work with ancestral magic. I wanted to assign this deck to Samhain for that reading but I kept picking up Mabon. There’s still a strong ancestral component with Mabon though so it isn’t totally out of left field. The colors and mood of the deck just feels like those first weeks of autumn when you can really see the earth shifting.
I chose Fire and Earth for the elements. Fire mostly because of the color palette. There are so many warm colors that make this an easy choice but it's also quite earthy too.
And finally, I chose Capricorn and Cancer for the zodiac signs. Cancer represents mother energy in your birthchart while Capricorn represents father energy. So it felt appropriate to include them both but if I had to choose one, it would be Cancer since that is the sign that is most related to family.
Who is this deck for?
This is a good deck to get if you’re working on your familial connection or if you want to start healing ancestral wounds. I think you have to ask the right questions but if you do, then I’m sure you’ll get a good bit out of it. Inna also has tons of decks so if you’re a fan of her work, then don’t hesitate on this one. The same goes for Jena’s artwork. If you like her style (her work includes Mystical Shaman Oracle, Kitchen Witch Oracle, and Goddess Power Oracle) then you will instantly recognize her work here.
Deck Companion
I haven’t found a tarot deck that I really love to match this one so if you have any thoughts, I’d love to know.
